May – Norwich Cathedral in the 18th & 19th Centuries – Owen Thompson

On May 13th our guest speaker will be Owen Thompson who will be talking about the history of Norwich Cathedral in the 18th and 19th centuries. His talk will touch on some of the lesser known bits of the cathedral’s history, such as that it had its own hospital and its own gaol, and the reasons behind the dean’s decision to change the altar rail and steps in 1830.

Owen is a published church historian who has written for the British Society of Master Glass Painters Journal of Stained Glass and the Churches Conservation Trust among others. Coincidentally he contributed to the CCT publication on St Mary’s Church, Redgrave, which we visited with Dr Sarah Spooner on Going for a Walk Pt lll back in March.

We’ll be meeting at Needham Village Hall, High Road, Needham, IP20 9LB on Saturday May 13th at 2.00pm. Admission is £3.00, all welcome and there’s no need to book, just turn up. We look forward to seeing you. The usual refreshments will be available.
