June Meeting – Rob Liddiard – The Defence of East Anglia in the Second World War
Our June meeting is on Saturday 13th June at 2.00pm in Needham Village Hall.
Our guest speaker this month is Rob Liddiard, Professor of History in the School of History at the University of East Anglia.
He will be telling us about the defences of East Anglia in the Second World War, the Stop Lines and fixed defences erected and manned against Operation Sealion, the planned German invasion of England in 1940 following their occupation of virtually the entire western coast of northern mainland Europe.
Rob Liddiard, together with David Sims, is the author of the four part Guide to Second World War Archaeology in Suffolk as well as many other articles and publications on the Second World War in East Anglia. He is also the author of numerous articles and books on the landscape and buildings of medieval England and Wales.
There will be the usual refreshments. Admission on the door is £2.00 for members, £3.00 for non members.
Needham Village Hall is at 52 High Road, Needham, IP20 9LB, next to the church.
