January Meeting – Dr Dominic Summers – The Seven Sacrament Fonts of East Anglia

For our January meeting we welcome Dr Dominic Summers. Dominic is a researcher of the material culture and architectural history of the Middle Ages in Britain, particularly East Anglia. He did his doctoral research into the late medieval towers of Norfolk parish churches. He has taught at UEA, City College Norwich and Norfolk Adult Education.

His talk for us will be about the seven sacrament fonts of East Anglia, a good few of which are not far away from us. There are about forty seven sacrament fonts in the country and over half of them are in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Two notable examples are close by at Westhall St Andrew

and over the border in Norfolk, St Peter’s, Brooke.

We’ll be meeting on Saturday January 20th at 2.00pm in Needham Village, High Road, Needham, IP20 9LB. Teas, coffees and biscuits will be served. Members £2.00, non-members £3.00

Apologies for the wrong date originally appearing in our 2018 diary of events. This has now been corrected.
