What’s On 2016
Here’ s our programme for the rest of this year, still subject to change and we may squeeze some stuff in if we can. We hope you can make it to some or all of these.
April 16th. Anglo-Norman East Anglia, Form, Function and Status with Professor Rob Liddiard
Rob is a Professor of History at UEA, and we welcome him back to talk about Anglo-Norman East Anglia. This promises to be a fascinating insight into medieval East Anglia. More information here

May 14th. Snails in Archaeology (yes,you read that right) with Matt Law
Matt is an environmental archaeology specialist at L – P : Archaeology in Bishop’s Stortford and Lecturer in Geography at Bath Spa University. He’s studied mollusc shell assemblages from contexts ranging from inter-glacial to nineteenth century, and from all over Britain as well as Turkey, Nigeria, Denmark and Albania, so he knows his snail shells.

18th – 19th June. 8th in the East Festival Weekend, Ipswich
We’ve been invited to take some space at this event at UCS Ipswich, so we’ll be looking for volunteers to help over the weekend. There’s a great programme of events with something for everyone. You can find full details on 8th in the East’s website
25th June. Thompson Walk with Tim Holt-Wilson
The third WVCAG summer walk will take us away from the Waveney Valley and into the mysterious Breckland world of meres and pingos. If the last two walks are anything to go by there’ll be a bit of everything, archaeology, geology, botany, entomology, psycho-geography, the works. Recommended.
16th July. The Romans in Suffolk with Dr Jude Plouviez
Jude was for many years Senior Archaeological Officer at Suffolk County Council and has extensive knowledge of Roman lives and Roman sites in Suffolk.

August. The Harleston Spigot Mortar Dig.
As part of the 2016 Harleston Festival we will be doing a dig around the position of the Second World War spigot mortar pit on the Recreation Ground in Harleston. 2016 marks the 75th anniversary of the installation of the spigot mortar. We are still in the planning stage for this so more to follow.
17th September. AGM + A N Other

15th October. The Pastons Part ll with Elizabeth McDonald
We welcome Liz McDonald back to update us on her researches into the Pastons, one of Norfolk’s best known and most influential medieval families. Liz is a PhD candidate at UEA and is involved in a number of programmes of talks and events about the Pastons. I’m hoping she might bring an owl.

19th November. Medieval Norwich with Peter Kent
Peter is a local author and illustrator of twenty nine books including The Fortifications of East Anglia, the Children’s History of Norwich and The Fatal Gates of Norwich “an alternative history of the ancient walls, towers and gates and a litany of clerical mortality” He lives in Norwich, a long arrow shot from the wall.
