March – The Lost Villages of Norfolk
On March 22nd we welcome Cameron Self and John Fielding.
Cam will be talking about the lost villages of Norfolk and locally Shotford gets a brief mention. This will be the first talk that Cam has done on the topic since his book The Lost Villages of Norfolk was published last year.
John, who took the aerial photographs for Cam’s book will be telling us how he got into flying and how he goes about preparing for and taking and post processing the pictures which he and Cam have used in the book.
There are about 250 lost or deserted villages in Norfolk, more than almost any other county in England. Cam will explore the reasons why there are so many lost villages in our county, from the impact of the Black Death in the 14th century to the creation of STANTA, the military training area near Thetford, in the 20th century. He will also look at the connection between ruined and isolated churches and lost villages.
Cam will have copies of his book for sale on the day at the reduced price of £15.00, payment by cash or Paypal only please.
We are meeting at Needham Village Hall, High Road, Needham, IP20 9LB on Saturday, March 22nd at 2.00pm. Admission is £3.00, all welcome. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
A quick update. Phil Hughes who was unfortunately unable to come and talk to us in February due to injury has been in touch to say that he is happy to come and talk to us in June, so we have booked him in for June 14th. More later.
