February – Soggy Saints and Pink Wafers
On February 7th, and please note change of date, we welcome back Dr Rebecca Pinner of UEA. Rebecca is an Associate Professor in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, where she teaches medieval literature and researches medieval culture.
Rebecca last came to talk to us a few years ago about her extensive research on St Edmund, who probably has a better claim than George to be the English patron saint.
This time Rebecca will be talking about her latest research on the relationship between water and religious culture in medieval East Anglia. She will explore examples of water, for example wells, in the cult of saints, from ancient myth to the reality of living in the watery landscape that was East Anglia in the middle ages.
We meet at 2.0pm at Needham Village Hall, High Road, Needham IP20 9LB Admission is £3., all welcome. Refreshments, including Rebecca’s rider of pink wafers, will be available after the talk.
