April Meeting – The Blythburgh Hoard

Following our very successful Zoom meetings with Elizabeth McDonald and James Wright (slight technical hiccups aside), we’ll be virtually meeting on Saturday April 17th at 2.00pm to hear about not one but two hoards of coins found recently in this area.

David Wollweber will tell us the story of the Iron Age hoard of nineteen rare gold coins, one of which had not been seen before, discovered near Blythburgh in 2019. Not content with that he will go on to tell us of hoard of sixty Roman silver coins discovered at Cookley in the summer of 2018. This second hoard is thought to date from the time of Boudicca, which ties in quite neatly with our meeting in May, where we’ll be welcoming Professor Will Bowden of Nottingham University and the Caistor Roman Project, more of which later.

Tickets for David’s talk will be £3.00 and you can book via our Eventbrite page. We’ll send you an email with a link to join the meeting a day or so before April 17th. We hope to see a lot of you there.
